The Illinois Section of ITE is holding a webinar event for the benefit of ITE members and guests. The event will be shown at the DuPage County Division of Transportation and 1.5 PDHs will be available to attendees after the webinar.
As part of its Smarter Work Zones program, the FHWA is working to understand and improve the state of the practice of work zone performance management. The FHWA is engaging with state DOTs and conducting research to understand performance management best practices, challenges, and opportunities. This webinar is part of a series of resources including case studies and fact sheets to share best practices, identify opportunities, and provide guidance on work zone performance management.
Work zone performance management is key to managing the safety and mobility impacts of road construction and maintenance projects. Effective work zone impact management requires a systematic approach to understand, monitor, measure, manage, and improve the safety and mobility performance of work zones. Several DOTs and transportation agencies are implementing innovative approaches and mainstreaming work zone performance management into their standard policies and procedures.
During this webinar, practitioners from Ohio DOT and Virginia DOT will present and discuss their practices for work zone performance management. A representative from AASHTO will also present the results of an ongoing survey of state DOT work zone performance management practices.
Key trends that will be discussed in the webinar include:
The use of probe vehicle data
Mainstreaming performance management into agency policies and processes including work zone process reviews
Incorporating work zone management into broader Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) initiatives
