Objects in Motion: Teaching Transportation Concepts with Interactives

The Illinois Section of ITE is holding a webinar for the benefit of ITE members. The event will be hosted online using Zoom Webinar.

Interactive visualization is a powerful tool for explaining transportation concepts, such as why buses bunch or how traffic waves occur. In the first place, still images often struggle to convey a system's behavior intuitively because transportation happens in time. In the second place, transportation always involves the public sector, so it is important for voters and elected leaders - not just experts -to have some understanding. In this talk, Dr. Lehe will discuss his experience using interactive visualizations in the classroom and out.

Lewis Lehe is an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UIUC, where he studies the economics and physics of travel on city streets. His PhD is from UC Berkeley, and he is from Irondale, Alabama. You can view his publications, current research, and visualizations at his website lewislehe.com.

Space will be limited, so please register as soon as possible if you plan on attending.
