The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international professional society of more than 11,000 transportation engineers, planners, and others responsible for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods on our streets, highways, and transit systems.

ITE is divided into ten Districts worldwide to better serve its members. The Illinois Section is part of District 4, which encompasses eleven states in the Midwest. Within District 4, there are four sections:

Illinois Pollution Campaign Touts IDOT for Green Construction Practices - IDOT Action Yields Public Health and Air Quality Benefits
SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig announced today that a statewide environmental oversight group has recognized the Illinois Department of Transportation’s efforts in implementing green construction provisions of Governor Pat Quinn’s order to reduce environmental impact of state government operations.

Governor Quinn Signs Bill to Protect the Rights of Vehicle Owners and to Improve Road Safety - Law Will Help Eliminate Congestion Near the Scene of an Accident
CHICAGO – Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig today commended Governor Pat Quinn for signing House Bill 4860 into law. The new law prohibits tow-truck operators from stopping at the scene of an accident and soliciting the owner or operator of the vehicle into using their towing services. The law will protect the rights of motorists and improve road safety by helping alleviate congestion at the scene of an accident.

IDOT Launches Procurement Reform Website - Public Website Offers Overview of Changes Required by Senate Bill 51
SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Chief Procurement Officer Bill Grunloh today announced the launch of IDOT’s new Procurement Reform website, designed to give the public an overview of changes in IDOT’s procurement process.

Governor Quinn Announces $15 Million to Build New MetroLINK Facility in Rock Island - $500 Million in Statewide Capital Funding will Support 18,000 Jobs, Improve Safety and Reliability of Aging Mass Transit Systems
MOLINE – July 23, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today announced more than $15 million in capital funds to build a new MetroLINK Transit Maintenance Facility. The facility will consolidate the agency’s administrative operations and maintenance functions, and serve as the cornerstone of a new riverfront development. MetroLINK estimates that the project will create 125 construction jobs.

Governor Quinn Announces $500 Million Investment in Illinois Mass Transit - Capital Funding will Support 18,000 Jobs, Improve Safety and Reliability of State’s Aging Mass Transit Systems
CHICAGO – July 22, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today announced more than $500 million for critical mass transit infrastructure improvements throughout Illinois. The funding, provided through the <i>Illinois Jobs Now!</i> capital construction program, will create and retain an estimated 18,000 jobs and improve traveler safety.
