After a long period of virtual meetings and zoom calls, IL-ITE was able to get back to having an Annual Banquet in-person! The banquet was held at McCormick & Schmick’s in Rosemont on April 7th, and had a great turnout. The banquet is a yearly commemorative event for the section to honor student awards, section awards, and to partake in long awaited networking with members from the industry
We were lucky to have Jose Rios from IDOT Region 1 serve as the keynote speaker of the night. Jose spoke about the Rebuild Illinois campaign, and what it means for the State and the transportation industry.

Jenna Brose from AECOM was awarded with the Outgoing President award for her years of service on the board and contributions in leading the Illinois section over the past year. Karyn Robles of the Village of Schaumberg received the Outstanding Member Award for her contributions over the past year on the Activities committee, including her work in rethinking the golf outing to take place at Top Golf (all within her first year on the committee), resulting in an event that could reach a broader audience, have a higher attendance, and create more opportunities to meet with other members. Luann Hamilton of Transmart/EJM received the John LaPlante award for her years of service to the transportation industry, serving as an advocate for sustainable transportation during her time as Deputy Commissioner at CDOT. In her role she served as a mentor to many, and helped make many projects possible to further biking, walking, and transit use throughout the City of Chicago. This year’s Graduate Student scholarship went to Limon Barua from University of Illinois at Chicago.

While normally the Annual Banquet is the time that the new Board is sworn in, due to covid-19 logistics, the new board members were sworn in over a virtual meeting in January. In addition to the banquet, a silent auction and wine raffle took place with all proceeds going to either the Section Scholarship Fund or the Great Lakes District Endowment Funds. We look forward to moving back into in person events like this one, as well as hybrid and virtual events as needed in the future.
