Salty Modal Tour - September 2023

On September 7th, IL-ITE had its fourth Malty Modal Tour (this one was nicknamed the Salty Modal Tour due to the location of the tour). The bike ride showcased the different levels of bike infrastructure that exist around the Salt Shed and Wicker Park area in the City of Chicago, and included the 606 Trail, Elston Bikeway, Lincoln Yards Site, a unique Salt Shed Traffic Signal, and Augusta Bikeway to name a few, all ending at The Hurley Tap for cold beverages.

The bike ride had great attendance, with 35+ riders and included a diverse mix of engineers, CMAP attendees, and non-members from Out Our Front Door Bike group. We even had a non-industry person show up from twitter, just interested in biking and hearing about what’s coming in the area. All in all, it was a great time, and we’re looking forward to having two more next year. If you have an idea for an area you’d like to see IL-ITE conduct a Malty Modal bike tour at next summer, let Public Affairs Chair Tyler Krage know.

Special thanks to Kurt Facknitz and Tyler Krage from CDOT and CDOT Complete Streets consultants Calvin Graham and Gina Showers for planning and leading the tour.
